Soccer, swimming, cricket and hockey receive the most emphasis at the Primary school of The International School of South Africa. High quality facilities and coaching from teachers and outside facilitators ensure that our learners are getting the best possible training and opportunity as they look to constantly improve their skills.

Sport does not only provide a platform for excellence and wellness, it is also a teacher of life skills, and our coaches try to instil our daily values of Respect for All, Hard Work, Honesty, Responsibility, Social Awareness and Compassion into this aspect of the learners development. Life skills and values are not only for those with a talent for sport, and so sport at ISSA is for every child.

Hockey is a favourite sport in the second term with a large number of participants. We compete successfully in the North West Central League in both boy’s and girl’s competitions.

We at ISSA are very proud of our swimmers, as we take part, successfully, in the North West Prestige Gala meetings, acquitting ourselves well. We are proud to boast a number of provincial representatives each year.

Soccer is by far one of our most popular sports in the primary school. We cater for both boys’ and girls’ soccer, and we compete well in the local Mafikeng League.

Mini Cricket is fostering a love for the sport at ISSA, and as a result our boy’s U11 and U13 teams compete well in the Local North West Central Leagues.

Tennis is a popular sport at our school that is played throughout the year. Teams compete in the local leagues.

Athletics takes place in the First Term. A selected squad trains in preparation for District, Regional and Provincial trials. The season culminates with athletes competing in the Inter House Athletics Day which consists of track and field events.

Volleyball is a popular sport with many of our students’. The highlight of the calendar id our annual festival which attracts the best playing volleyball schools in Johannesburg and neighbouring countries.

Netball continues to develop with the junior girls. The teams do compete in organised local fixtures.

Basketball is the most popular sport amongst students’. The school participates in local fixtures and we also compete annually in the various festivals hosted by the Johannesburg schools. These include the AISJ, St John’s and St Stithian’s tournaments. The school also hosts the U/19 and U/16 festival on an annual basis which includes teams from South Africa and neighbouring countries.
