At ISSA,the IGCSE Drama course is an endemic part of the holistic approach to education.For the first three high school years fine art, music and drama form a regular part of the of the weekly timetable which seeks to balance left and right brain development within an integrated system of education.
Apart from being an enjoyable and experiential course, Drama puts the focus upon emotional intelligence (inter-personal and self awareness),analytical intelligence (linguistic and symbolic), verbal and nonverbal communication, critical appreciation (interpretation of dramatic literature),organizational and leadership skills (group co-operation and ensemble work), performance skills (role playing and expressive skills),theories of performance (theatre history), theatre literacy and performance evaluation.
Assessment
Practical coursework (60%) is completed by the end of the first term in Form Five leaving time for theoretical exam (40%) preparation in the second term of Form Five.
Professions That Drama Can Contribute Towards:
- Theatre, Television, Film Professions: Director, Performer, Presenter, Producer, Playwright, Technical manager, Camera person, Editor, Designer etc.
- Medical professions Art, Drama and/ or Movement Therapist and Psychodrama Therapist or a Psychologist, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist with a specialization in experiential healing methods that include the use of drama
- Education.Drama Teacher, Humanities Teacher who uses drama as a cross-curricular teaching modality, Theatre-in-education or Drama-in-education practitioner, etc.
- Media And Design Professions.Creative Director, Advertising, Scripting, Conceptual planner, Marketing etc.
- Law, Business And Political Professions that require problem-solving, and public speaking skills.
- Any Field that requires good human communications skills (Doctors, Teachers, Priests, Diplomats, Politicians, Managers, Leaders in Commerce and Industry, etc.)
