IGCSE Computer Studies is a two year course for examination at the end of the two years.Computer Studies is a creative, technical and vocational subject which, when taken seriously, can lead to a candidate contributing meaningfully either in the home or corporate situation, because of its practical nature.

The intention of the syllabus is that students should gain knowledge of the nature of information processing and the broad range of its applications, together with a general understanding of how an information processing system is designed to suit a particular application and how such a system works.

The syllabus concentrates on the principles of information processing so that, although students will study contemporary hardware, software and applications as examples, they should be well equipped to appreciate future developments in the technology and its applications. Computing is an applied subject and, to reinforce the practical aspects, all candidates are expected to do practical work.

Assessment

All candidates will be entered for Papers 1 and 2.
  1. Paper 1 (2 ½ hours) Short-answer and structured questions with no choice.
  2. Paper 2, Coursework (School-based assessment)* - Project
*A single piece of coursework of a substantial nature, involving the use of a computer to solve a specific problem, is to be carried out over an extended period. This will enable the students to use their skills and experience gained during the course to solve and document the solution to a problem.
