This two year course aims to enable students to:
- develop a knowledge and understanding of economic terminology and basic economic theory
- develop basic economic literacy and numeracy and the ability to handle simple data
- use the tools of economic analysis in specific situations
- employ economic skills with reference to individuals, groups and organisations in order to understand the real world better
- participate more fully in decision-making processes, as consumers and producers and as citizens at the local, national and international levels.
CONTENT AREAS OF THE COURSE INCLUDE:
- the basic economic problem
- how the market works
- government intervention in the market
- labour
- international trade
- money and banking
- macroeconomic problems (inflation, unemployment, economic growth, balance of payments stability)
- development and growth of economics.
ASSESSMENT:
The IGCSE Economics syllabus takes two years to complete, with examinations in November of the 2nd year.Candidates are required to sit three papers (at both core and extended levels):
- Multiple Choice questions 1 Hour 25%
- Structured questions 2 Hours 50%
- Interpretation and Analysis of data relating to a real economic situation 1 ½ Hours 25%
