Tennis
In a bid to groom our very own Serena Williamses and Roger Federers, tennis enjoys its fair share of popularity on the busy sport calendar at ISSA.
Concerted and rigorous practice takes place on Tuesday s and Thursday s, from 3.30pm until 5.10pm. Attendance at the sessions has been phenomenal for such a demanding sporting code: twelve girls and thirteen boys, on a regular basis. It would be desirable to get a few more individuals joining, to get the novices and intermediate numbers up to thirty. With one professional coach, two assistant coaches(playing on a competitive national level) and six ‘grandmasters’ on the courts on each of the sessions, tennis is set to –re-establish its niche as a noble sport at ISSA.
There are singles and double matches currently lined for the penultimate week of May against the local Mmabatho stable, and this should polish the players’ skills in readiness for the Maruapula (Botswana) Derby to be played at ISSA on 27 July. When all the euphoria of the world cup has calmed and subsided, centre court at ISSA will be the place to be!
