Korfball

ISSA studets started playing korfball in August 2002.  It all happened when the coach had to practise for an overseas tour in 2003 and she needed someone to help her.  In the early days there were only 4 students and later on, we ended up with 70 players.

In 2004 we had seven players selected for different SA teams. That same year three of your players represented SA at the U/19 World Cup in The Netherlands.  In 2005 we had U/13, U/15 and U/17 playing this fast growing sport.

In 2006 before the SA tournament we took an ISSA U/15 team to The Netherlands for some training by professionals and matches against team in Amstelveen en Bergen op Zoom. The players' skills improved a lot and did really well at the end of the tour.  The students had a problem with the weather in the beginning but soon they got use to the cold weather.

During the SA tournament that was held in Kimberley the U/15 team won all their matches and went home as the winners of the U/15 league.  That was our 1st gold medal.

In 2007 we had 70 students playing korfball.  We had an U/13, U/15, U/17 and U/19 team.

In 2008 we had a second tour to The Netherlands.  This time we also took the players to Paris, France.  They had training and in their free time they were cycling and sight seeing.

This was one of our best years.  At the SA tournament the U/17 team won the gold and Chikwefu Ngambi was the player or the U/17 tournament.

Larry Kambala is the first ISSA student who represented the SA U/13, SA U/15, SA u/17 and SA U/19 National teams.

2009 was also one of the highlights of korfball at ISSA.  With hard work and a lot of determination the teams were ready for theh SA tournament in Durban in July.

The ISSA U/15 and U/17 team played as Stelleland.  We were playing in the U/17 and U/19 league during the tournament.  The U/15 team ended 3rd and for the second year in a row the U/17 team won the tournament.
What makes this one so special was that the team also won all their matches agains the U/19 teams from the other provinces.

Larry Kambala was selected as the U/17 player of the tournament.  He was also the Captain of the ISSA team.
